Youth & Elder Connection
"Bridging the Generations"
An intergenerational initiative designed to enhance the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health and well being of urban aboriginal youth and elders. 'Bridging the Generations' is a community-based project that brings youth and elders together through the provision of social and recreational activities, health-related workshops and mentoring opportunities. The program bridges the generational divide in a fun and educational way that promotes respect for self and others and an increased appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and traditions.
The program is open to all Vancouver Native Housing residents between the ages of 12 to 15 years of age and 65 years and older.
The 'Bridging the Generations' program is made possible through the kindness of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the generous support of multiple community partnerships. The strong network of the Native Friendship Centre, Urban Native Youth Alliance, Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Advocates, Redwire Youth Magazine and more have made this program a wonderful success.
